Fort Chipewyan, commonly referred to as Fort Chip, is a hamlet in northern Alberta, Canada, within the Regional Municipality (RM) of Wood Buffalo. It is located on the western tip of Lake Athabasca, adjacent to Wood Buffalo National Park, approximately 223 km north of Fort McMurray. Wood Buffalo National Park is a UNESCO Heritage Site and is home to the world’s largest free roaming herd of buffalo and over 200 species of migratory birds including the famous and rarest – the Whooping Crane.
